Casa Saldarini by Vttorio Giorgoni (1926—2010) is a great example of the concepts he later featured in his 1965 manifesto Spatiology. Through its elevated and serpentine volume, the Casa Saldarini embodies the architect’s main concern on the impact of a structure on the ground. Inspired by the topology of thin shell structures, the present achievement is symbolically situated at the heart of a forest estate in Baratti, Tuscany. Giorgioni is surely a pioneer in abolishing the notions of a roof, the walls and a facade to a building. Merging them all together to become one, the latter guarantee a more sculptural finish. Casa Saldarini has been quite well preserved since its construction in 1962.
